Happy Birthday, Brian!

It is my dear husband’s birthday today. Happy birthday, sweetheart! I have been very negligent with regard to birthday surprises this year, but we’ll make up for it. I promise a banoffee pie next weekend.

Still running

Just wanted to let you know that I am still running! I haven’t done the 5km race yet, but I think I am almost ready to hit the streets in my running shoes. I have logged over 100km since the beginning of January, which is quite an accomplishment for me. I don’t think it is getting any easier – or any more fun – but I am sticking to it. My soon to be running buddy is away at the moment, but when she gets back the excuses are over! I am a bit worried, as she has really long legs and I am somewhat less well-endowed in that region!

I am also still sewing, but haven’t been so focused on taking pics of the things I have made. In the last little while I have upholstered a seat / bed for my friend’s boat, made curtains to divide my craft room from the living room and create a stage for the girls’ performances. I have also made a cushion cover, hot water bottle cover, 3 elephants, a zippered pouch for my handbag essentials, a 3 tier twirly skirt, lipstick roll, cards, curtains for mum’s guest room and just finished a business card holder for “work” and “playdate” cards. Wow, I have been quite busy! However, there are still numerous things on the list, including:

  • keyboard covers for hubby
  • another “essentials” bag for all the bits and pieces I need to transfer when I switch handbags
  • wide leg lounge pants for mum
  • pink dress for Pip
  • twirly skirt for Milly
  • upholstered seating for friend’s boat
  • skirt for me
  • crayon rolls, aprons, tutus, bags, bibs to sell
  • birthday skirt for the next birthday girl
  • stuffed crocodile toy

Will keep you posted when I actually achieve any of that!!

New toys

I made my first stuffed toys yesterday, using a pattern from Diana Rupp’s book “Sew Everything Workshop”. I think they turned out fairly well, but I know I will get better with practise. The trickiest part is the intersection between 3 pieces – but stuffing isn’t quite as easy as you might think! I am going to do some research into what I can use that would be machine washable. If anyone has any advice, I would love to hear it.

The first elephant is for Milly and already has eyes, but no name. We are not really into elaborate naming around here. “Gromit” came with his name, “Panda” is a panda and “Talking Doggy” is a dog hand puppet! The girls also both have imaginary babies called “Oscar”! That’s not to say that we are lacking in imagination! Actually, I really don’t know why we don’t name things….I know I didn’t as a child, so it isn’t something we think too much about. Hey, at least we named the children!

I digress. Elephant 2 isn’t quite finished yet, as I need to embroider some eyes, as it is for a baby and I don’t want to use buttons. I might try to make another this weekend in a different fabric, perhaps something blue. The baby hasn’t been born yet, so I wanted to make it in a unisex colourway.
